February Newsletter: Startups making smart cities

Sustainable cities

This newsletter looks at the SeedTribe startups shaping the cities of the future.

Hi,

Last week Michael Gove declared that the UK has a ‘moral responsibility to lead a Green Industrial Revolution’, pioneering revolutions in both the transport and construction sectors. Whilst it remains to be seen what will be in the next budget to enable this, there are already many startups ahead of the curve revolutionising these industries.

Two of these startups are in our Spotlight week. EMSOL and Biohm are leading the way in transforming our cities and the built environment. Tackling head on the challenges in construction and transport, they enable companies and individuals to take action, reduce emission levels and live in more sustainable environments.

Spotlight:

EMSOL

EMSOL is transforming air quality by empowering local authorities, construction companies and the rail sector to save money and take immediate action on reducing their emissions. Their Co-founder Freddie spoke to us about their innovative Internet of Things device.

Biohm

Biohm is revolutionising the construction industry and creating a healthier and more sustainable environment through the circular economy. We spoke to their Founder Ehab about their revolutionary bio-based materials, combining mycelium and organic waste to create durable building materials.

Biohm and EMSOL show that there are already for-profit businesses leading the way towards a greener future. They are transforming how traditionally highly polluting industries operate, which brings tangible benefits to big companies as well as individuals and the planet. These huge, polluting industries are ripe for disruption and we are excited to see a fast-growing market that has the potential to revolutionise the way cities work.

To be put in touch with the founders behind EMSOL or Biohm, or if you know of any other impactful startups we should be featuring, get in touch.
