Our interview with Abbie, Co-founder of Compare Ethics
Describe your mission in a sentence or two
Our mission is to accelerate conscious consumer choices through innovation. Using technology, we will celebrate the best purpose led brands and make it easy for shoppers to make better choices.
Who are your clients?
Our clients are two fold:
- conscious consumers in the U.K. Our biggest segment is millennials aged 25-40 who actively consider a brand values when making purchasing decisions.
- Sustainable brands who are keen to demonstrate that they adhere to best practice and would like to see return on investment for their sustainable supply chain.
What stage are you at in your business?
Compare Ethics is about to open our pre-seed round. We have already launched an MVP platform that is generating monthly revenues and working with top U.K sustainable brands. We are now preparing to launch a new growth phase that sees customer expansion across the next 12 months.
What are you most proud of/excited about for your business?
We are very proud of our amount of traction in a short space of time. In 12 months, we have built a sustainable ranking algorithm and launched an MVP that has seen over 50 sustainable brands and 1200+ products on the platform. We have also made thousands of pounds in revenue for sustainable brands, demonstrating good relevance for our conscious consumer community. This strong first year has also been recognised by Google. We were selected for the first ever Google Female Founder Accelerator and Residency program.
What do you see as the role of big corporates in the impact space?
Big corporates play an important role in the impact space. Particularly with regard to taking authentic steps towards a sustainable future. There is a lot to be gained with the conscious consumer community for brands taking strong leadership and authentic voices to new levels.
What does 2030 look like in your mind?
By 2030, we must be transitioned to a circular economy. The creation of more sustainable materials is fantastic and certainly needed. However, sustainable materials is just a drop in the ocean of the amount of change needed to protect our ecosystem and economy. We need system change. From a take-make-dispose to a take-make-reuse economy. While this is a big challenge, it is also a big opportunity for purposeful business to take centre stage. One person's waste is another person's treasure.
What other UK impactful start-up do you love and why?
I am big fan of many U.K impact businesses. One great start up is EmitWise. They are helping corporations track their Co2 emissions to help them meet crucial net zero targets.
What’s next for Compare Ethics?
The next phase of Compare Ethics is all about sustainable growth. We are expanding our team to grow our consumer and brand community over the next 12 months.
How can the SeedTribe community be involved in helping you scale your impact?
I would be delighted to connect with mentors, sustainability experts, investors or anyone who is passionate about sustainability aggregation and metrics.
